SQUARE D'ANVERS - JEAN-CLAUDE CARRIÈRE
10 bis avenue Trudaine, 75009 Paris
Located at 10 bis, Avenue Trudaine, in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, the Square d’Anvers – Jean-Claude Carrière is set on part of the former Montmartre slaughterhouses. It was laid out in 1877 based on plans by architect Jean-Camille Formigé, under the direction of engineer Alphand.
The square features a bandstand, which comes to life during the warmer months, and offers a remarkable view of the Sacré-Cœur, one of its main attractions.
Over the years, the square has undergone several transformations: statues (of Diderot and Sedaine) and a column were removed during the construction of an underground parking lot. It was later redesigned in 1981, including the installation of a new bandstand.
Since December 2021, it officially bears the name Square d’Anvers – Jean-Claude Carrière, in honor of the French writer Jean-Claude Carrière.
The square is easily accessible from Hôtel Théorème by bus (line 40) from Le Peletier station or (line 85) from Provence – Faubourg Montmartre.
